On the final week of the FIFA World Cup, voting has opened for the 2022 FIFA FIFPRO Men’s World 11.

The only global player award decided exclusively by footballers, the World 11 depicts the most outstanding footballers in the current game.

With the World Cup being the showpiece event of the men's football calendar, many stars of Qatar 2022 will likely be present in this year’s World 11.

Will Kylian Mbappe make a return to the World 11 for the first time since 2019? Will Achraf Hakimi's World Cup heroics with Morocco see the defender make his World 11 debut? Will Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo be named in the World 11 for a 16th year running?

Footballers around the world will have their say, with almost 19,000 professional men’s players voting for the World 11 team last year. Voting has already finished for the FIFA FIFPRO Women's World 11, with players casting their ballots in record numbers. 

The men's and women's World 11s will be revealed at The Best FIFA Football Awards on Monday 27 February 2023.

How does the voting work?

The FIFA FIFPRO Men’s World 11 is voted for by professional players from around the world. Each player has a chance to participate, and all votes are counted equally.

FIFPRO and affiliated players unions distribute unique links that give players from all professional football clubs access to the digital voting platform.

Footballers pick the three players who, in their opinion, were the most outstanding in the 2021-2022 season in each of the following positions: goalkeepers, defenders, midfielders and forwards.

The goalkeeper, three defenders, three midfielders and three forwards with the most votes in their position make it into the FIFA FIFPRO Men’s World 11. The 11th spot is assigned to the outfield player with the next highest number of votes.

Players are free to choose any of their peers. The voting tool contains a guidance list, but players are allowed to add other names if they are not mentioned on that list.

What happens next?

In the build-up to the FIFA FIFPRO Men’s World 11 unveil, FIFA and FIFPRO will release a 26-person squad list showing the players who have received the most votes.

The 11 players within that 26-person squad who receive the most votes in their position are then selected in the FIFA FIFPRO Men’s World 11.

Those players will then be officially presented at the 2022 The Best FIFA Football Awards – to be held on Monday 27 February 2023.
