Footballco has partnered with FIFPRO for the announcement of the 2024 Men’s World 11 and Women’s World 11.
As FIFPRO’s media partner for the World 11, Footballco will create content with players selected that will be distributed across Footballco’s global portfolio of football media brands, which, combined, have a monthly audience of more than 640 million fans. These include global brand GOAL, as well as leading local market titles including SPOX (Germany), Voetbalzone (Netherlands) and Calciomercato (Italy).
The FIFPRO Women’s World 11 will be supported across Footballco’s women’s football media brand, INDIVISA, which includes editions supporting the women’s game in the Middle East, Italy and the UK and US.
Established by FIFPRO in 2005, the World 11 is the only global football award decided exclusively by professional footballers. This year, a record 28,322 players from 70 countries have voted for their team of the year. Some of the previous World 11 players have included Ronaldinho, Zinedine Zidane, Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, Marta, Wendie Renard and Alex Morgan.
World 11: What the players say
Men’s players vote for the Men’s World 11 and women’s players vote for the Women’s World 11. They pick the three players who, in their opinion, were the most outstanding in each of the following positions: goalkeeper, defence, midfield and forward. The goalkeeper, three defenders, three midfielders and three forwards with the most votes in their position win a place in the World 11. The 11th spot is assigned to the outfield player with the next highest number of votes.
The 26 finalists will be announced on 2 December 2024, with the World 11s announced on 9 December 2024. This year marks a new era for the awards: the winners will be revealed online, and players will be presented with a new trophy in person.
"The FIFPRO World 11, which is now in its 20th year, is the recognition of the individual talent, dedication and hard work of footballers by their fellow professionals," FIFPRO Acting General Secretary Stephane Burchkalter said. "We are delighted that Footballco will help us celebrate this moment that means so much to players."
James Lamon, Footballco Executive President of Content and Operations, said: "We’re excited to be working with FIFPRO to celebrate the best players in the world and continue our strategy of bringing our fans closer to the players they love. Through a combination of popular video formats and a truly global audience, we know we can celebrate these players in a way that will resonate with fans and be just as enjoyable for the players involved."
