What makes the FIFPRO World 11 stand out from other football accolades? It is the only global football award decided exclusively by the players.

This year’s FIFPRO Men’s World 11 and FIFPRO Women’s World 11 will be revealed on Monday 9 December, after 28,322 footballers from 70 countries voted for their global team of the year.

First awarded in 2005, the World 11 is voted for by professional footballers from around the globe; FIFPRO and affiliated player associations distribute unique links that give players access to a digital voting platform.

See what past and current winners have to say about the player-driven award – from Erling Haaland, Robert Lewandowski and Lionel Messi to Aitana Bonmati, Lucy Bronze, and Mary Earps.

“I work hard every day to ensure I’m consistent; I want to perform at my highest level as often as possible. If other players recognise that, it means I am doing something right.”

— by Kevin De Bruyne, four-time World 11 winner

“The World 11 is almost better than being the best player. That might sound controversial, but the World 11 is solely voted for by the players and, to me, that’s the opinion that doesn’t necessarily matter the most, but it means the most.”

— by Lucy Bronze, six-time World 11 winner

“To be voted by your colleagues, your peers, is the highest recognition you can get. The guys that vote for you go through almost the same things you go through on a daily basis.”

— by Virgil van Dijk, three-time World 11 winner

“The recognition you get from your team-mates or opponents is the most beautiful thing about football.”

— by Aitana Bonmati, 2023 World 11 winner

“It’s not easy to be in this team year after year. Being in this team alongside so many top players gives me great satisfaction.”

— by Lionel Messi, 17-time World 11 winner

“It’s probably the highest honour you can get. As players, we all go through the same thing every day: we train, we compete at the same level. For them to recognise you as one of the best is something you don't take lightly.”

— by Alex Greenwood, 2023 World 11 winner

“Nothing beats being voted for by other players. When your peers recognise your quality, it means so much.”

— by Erling Haaland, three-time World 11 winner

“For me, it's an honour. I don't think there is a better award than this”

— by Christiane Endler, three-time World 11 winner

“It means a lot that players see what I am doing on the pitch, the performance I show every single day and what I do to be on this level.”

— by Robert Lewandowski, two-time World 11 winner

“It's something that means so much, being voted for by other players. Those are the opinions that mean the most.”

— by Ella Toone, 2023 World 11 winner

“To feel this recognition and respect from your colleagues, that either play with you or against you, is really special.”

— by Ruben Dias, two-time World 11 winner

“It’s a real privilege to be voted into the World 11 by your peers. It means a great deal to feel like you have their respect.”

— by Mary Earps, 2023 World 11 winner
