Why three-time World 11 winner Erling Haaland can once again make team of the year

A three-time World 11 winner, Erling Haaland in the 2023/24 season once again demonstrated why he is one of the most lethal finishers in the current game. It's why his fellow professionals have once again voted the Norwegian striker to be one of the finalists for the 2024 FIFPRO Men's World 11.

The vote of footballers from around the globe has determined that Haaland is among the 26 shortlisted players for the 2024 team of the year, which rewards individual performances between 21 August 2023 and 14 July 2024 inclusive.

Three strikers will be selected for the World 11, with the possibility of a fourth if the most voted player outside the 10 – one goalkeeper, three defenders, three midfielders and three forwards – also plays as a striker. Joining Haaland on the forwards shortlist is Vinicius Jr, Harry Kane, Kylian Mbappe, Lionel Messi, Cole Palmer, Cristiano Ronaldo and Lamine Yamal.

Haaland's 2023/24 season

The 2023/24 campaign ended with Haaland winning two titles: the UEFA Super Cup and the English Premier League. In the Premier League, Haaland was once again a relentless scorer, this time netting 27 goals in 31 games. It earned him another Golden Boot in the competition and helped City to a fourth consecutive league title.

At international level, during the World 11 voting period, Haaland scored seven goals in four matches. The goals brought him even closer to Norway's all-time leading scorer, Jorgen Juve; Juve's record of 33 goals, which dated back to 1937, was finally broken by Haaland in October this year.

Haaland in the World 11

At the age of 24, Haaland could make his fourth consecutive FIFPRO Men's World 11. In the 2021 edition, he shared a forward line with Robert Lewandowski, Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo; in 2022 with Messi, Kylian Mbappe and Karim Benzema; and in 2023 he did it again with Messi, Mbappe, and Vinicius Jr.

When will the World 11 be announced?

The 2024 FIFPRO Men's World 11 will be officially announced on 9 December at 16:00 CET. It will be made up of the 11 players – out of the 26 on the final list – who receive the most votes in their position.

This year, all winners will be presented with a new trophy that truly captures the collective spirit of the World 11.
