One day to go before FIFA and FIFPro announce the final 15 players on the shortlist of this year’s FIFA FIFPro World XI. Time for one more report, this time from Zimbabwe.

Desmond Maringwa is president of the professional footballers association of Zimbabwe (FUZ). He is also a footballer, playing for Dynamos FC. ‘I am not playing regularly, but I am still the captain’, he smiles. ‘Just a week ago, we won the league title for a record 19th time.’

Maringwa and his colleagues at FUZ have spent considerable time during the last few months to travel the country and gather votes for the FIFA FIFPro World XI. For the second year, the players in this African country could participate in the election.

'We went to all members of the Footballers Union of Zimbabwe at teams in the Premier Soccer League, including Highlanders, Shabanie Mine, Hardbody, Dynamos, Gunners, Caps United, Blue Rangers, Chicken lnn, Monomotapa, Hwange, Quelaton, Motor Action, Harare City and Black Mambas.’

‘All these players were very grateful to be able to contribute in in this prestigious voting process. We, the FUZ, are proud that the players in Zimbabwe can show that they too are part of this big football family.’
