Just as president Mustapha El Hadaoui and his colleagues from the professional footballers’ association of Morocco (AMF) were preparing to visit the national team of Morocco, they received the news of the death of Zakaria Zerouali.

They were in shock, as most of the people in Morocco, last Monday.

On the 20th of September, AMF representatives had paid a visit to the players of Raja Casablanca. Amongst other things on the agenda was the vote for the 2011 FIFA FIFPro World XI. Most of the players enthusiastically participated in this election by filling in their ballots and posing for the AMF camera before dropping ‘their World XI’ in the voting box.

ne of those players was Zakaria Zerouali. At that moment he appeared to be in good health. Two weeks later he passed away, due to an intoxication…

‘We will never forget you, Zakaria’, AMF president Mustapha El Hadaoui reacted on the tragic news about the defender, who not only played for Raja, but also made appearances for the national team.

One day later, AMF representatives did visit the national team of Morocco, to show their support for the important upcoming match against Tanzania (Morocco beat Tanzania on Sunday (3-1) and qualified for the next African Cup of Nations tournament). They also asked the players to join the vote for the 2011 FIFA FIFPro World XI, a request they did not have to repeat as most of the players lined up to receive their ballot.

Among the players returning their ballot were Benatia (Udinese, Italy), Oussama Assaidi (SC Heerenveen, the Netherlands), Mbark Boussoufa (Anzhi, Russia), Mohamed Chihani (El Arabi, Qatar), Karim El Ahmadi (Feyenoord, the Netherlands), Younès Belhanda (Montpellier, France), Abdelfatah Boukhriss and Mohamed Berrabeh (both WAC Casablanca), Mehdi Benatia (Udinese) and Mounir El Hamdaoui (Ajax, the Netherlands).
