All over the world, representatives of professional footballers associations are travelling from club to club, to invite players to participate in the vote for the FIFA FIFPro World XI 2012. Today news from Atlético Madrid.

Last week, a delegation of FIFPro and AFE visited the players of Atlético Madrid, the holders of the Europa League and the European Super Cup.

One of the most surprising results in international football this year, was Atlético’s 4-1 pounding of Champions League winners Chelsea in the final of the European Super Cup. Atlético forward Radamel Falcao showed his superb talents and scored three goals in this match.

Falcao, a 26-year old striker from Colombia, arrived in Europe in 2009 after signing for FC Porto. In 2011 he guided Porto to the Europa League, by scoring 17 goals in the competition: a record. He surpassed Jürgen Klinsmann’s 15 goals. In the summer of 2011 he moved to Atlético Madrid, and also guided the Spanish club to the Europa League, becoming the first player to win two consecutive European titles with two different clubs, while also being top goal scorer of the competition.

This year, Falcao is one of the favourites to make the FIFA FIFPro World XI. He was one of the Atlético players to vote and also took some time for a video interview with FIFPro’s and AFE’s reporter.

‘It means a lot to me that some players have considered me to be in the FIFA FIFPro World XI’, Falcao said. ‘It fills me with pride and great joy to know that they think the work I'm doing is very good.’

‘To me it is a great idea that the players have the option to give their opinion and have the possibility to vote for which players they think are the best. Then, if I am or not, it is something no one knows. But the idea alone of being considered as a player doing a good job, that means a lot to me.’
