Just three days to go before FIFPro reveals the first part of the shortlist for this year’s FIFA FIFPro World XI. Currently, the last votes are being counted at the headquarters of the World Footballers’ Association in the Netherlands.

The crew counting all the votes will have to put in extra long hours to ensure that all ballots (all players' votes) are included in the election.

Starting next Monday, FIFPro and FIFA will announce the 55 players who are nominated on the shortlist, beginning with the 5 goalkeepers who have received the most votes. In the following week, three other shortlists will be published.

The schedule is:

  • Monday December 2nd: 5 goalkeepers
  • Wednesday December 4th: 20 defenders
  • Friday December 6th: 15 midfielders
  • Monday December 9th: 15 forwards

Since Lionel Messi officially launched the vote in September, FIFPro has published many articles about and pictures of players participating in the vote. The World Footballers’ Association collected votes from 62 countries worldwide thanks to the co-operation of its member unions and related players’ organisations.

And of course, FIFPro has received more than a thousand pictures of players voting. A large number has already been published on the FIFPro Flickr account (click here for the photo set). Others will follow.
