Over recent weeks, professional footballers throughout Scotland, including current PFA Scotland chairman and Dundee United star John Rankin (pictured above) have been taking part in the

2013 FIFA FIFPro World XI vote.

The players have been asked to select who they feel have been the best eleven players in world football over the past year, listing their preferences in a 4-3-3 formation.

By taking the time to consider their best team, players in Scotland are joining thousands of fellow professionals from across the globe in participating in the selection process.

To date, players from throughout the four professional leagues in Scotland have taken part in the vote with those in the Premiership enjoying the debate just as much as much as those in League Two.

In recent years the Spanish La Liga has been the main source of selection for players in Scotland. Last year they picked seven players from Spain and four from the English Premier League: Hart, Ramos, Dani Alves, Piqué, Kompany; Xavi, Iniesta, Yaya Touré; Messi, Ronaldo, Van Persie.

However this year Bayern Munich’s Champions League triumph has pushed several of their players to the fore in the minds of Scottish players. In particular, the emergence of David Alaba has seen him become an ever more popular choice amongst the top eleven players selected.

Much of the discussion within the changing rooms has also been around the best position for Gareth Bale. After the fantastic year the Welshman has had at Tottenham Hotspur and Real Madrid, some have included him as a striker while others as a midfielder with some players even selecting him in his first professional position of left full back-certainly an attack minded team selection...
