Three days prior to honouring the 2010 FIFA FIFPro World XI, FIFPro publishes an overview of twenty remarkable statistics as a result of the six elections of the World XI.

 

FIFPro has organized the election of the World XI since 2005. This election gives all professional footballers throughout the world the opportunity to select their favourite team, consisting of 1 goalkeeper, 4 defenders, 3 midfielders and 3 attackers.

 

In 2009 the global union for professional footballers joined forces with FIFA. Since then FIFA and FIFPro honour all eleven players of the best team in the world, the FIFA FIFPro World XI, during the FIFA Ballon d’Or gala in Zurich, Switzerland. This year's gala will be on Monday, January 10th.

 

The 20 facts:

  • In total 32 players have been chosen in the 5 previous World XI’s
  • John Terry is the only player selected for all 5 World XI’s
  • Kaká is second having been selected 4 times
  • Steven Gerrard, Lionel Messi, Ronaldinho and Cristiano Ronaldo were all elected on 3 occasions

 

  • In total 11 countries supplied all 32 players
  • The most players originate from Italy and Spain: 6 from each country
