The following is a FIFPRO statement regarding Professional Footballers Australia's initiative to seek more World Cup prize money for women's national teams.

FIFPRO welcomes efforts by football players and national player unions that represent them to seek more resources to develop women’s football.

While FIFA and some regional confederations and national associations have taken steps to advance women’s football, these have not been significant or fast enough.

Women national team players around the world should receive equal treatment to their male national team counterparts; this should include their travel and accommodation as well as their medical treatment and financial compensation.

Within the last few weeks, FIFA has agreed to our request to start negotiating new conditions for women’s national team players after the 2019 Women’s World Cup, and we are determined to making real and lasting progress on behalf of them.
