Free boots for all players. For the fourth year running, the Spanish professional footballers AFE and its members will benefit from the gate receipts of a Spanish national team friendly.

On Wednesday 5 March reigning World and European champions Spain are to host Italy in the Vicente Calderón stadium in Madrid, the home of Atlético. The match is dubbed “el partido beneficio de AFE”, meaning that large part of the revenues of this encounter will be shared among all professional footballers in Spain.

AFE and the Spanish football federation (RFEF) started this initiative in 2011 with a match between Spain and Colombia. That year, the players union decided to use the donation to acquire defibrillators for the teams in the Tercera División (fourth division).

This year AFE is going to present a pair of free boots to all players in the Segunda División A and Segunda División B (respectively second and third division).

Said Juan José Montaner, AFE’s Communications Chief: “With a portion of the gate receipts, AFE acquired approximately 2,000 pairs of boots, which we just recently started distributing in the dressing rooms of all clubs concerned. The players can choose from four different pairs of Nike shoes. All boots bear the AFE logo.”

Last Friday, February 28th, national team manager Vicente Del Bosque announced the Spain squad for the friendly encounter against Italy, a re-match of the Euro 2012 final, at AFE’s new headquarters in Madrid.
