Cienciano del Cusco was suspended for the 24th round of the Peruvian premier league. The club had failed to pay off its outstanding debts to players.

The professional football league of Peru (ADFP) decided to sanction Cienciano, after the deadline had expired on June 30th, and Cienciano also had failed to settle its debts with the players’ association SAFAP in the following two weeks.

In February 2010, the SAFAP and the professional clubs had come to an agreement in order to help clubs solve their debts of 2009. The ADFP guaranteed that the clubs would observe the agreement. In May, Cienciano and the SAFAP had agreed terms for payment of salaries, nevertheless the club did not fulfil its obligations.

Cienciano is the current number 12 in the 16 team Descentralizado 2010. In the 24th round they were scheduled to meet José Gálvez de Chimbote. Earlier this season, the ADFP also suspended José Gálvez when it had not paid its footballers.
