The AMF, the Moroccan professional footballers association, celebrated the best Moroccan players by handing out trophies to the most outstanding footballers in Morocco and abroad in the 2010-2011 season. Mehdi Benatia received the biggest award.

 

The AMF asked all captains of the clubs in the Moroccan first division (Botola 1) to cast their votes for the following awards: Best Player Botola 1, Most Promising Player Botola 1, Best Goalkeeper Botola 1, Best Moroccan Player Abroad.

 

The AMF also invited 26 coaches and  several Moroccan sports writers to cast their votes.

 

The awards went to:
Best Player Botola 1: Chemseddine Chtibi (Maghreb Athletic Sportif),
Most Promising Player Botola 1: Abderrazak Hamadallah (Olympique Sportif Safi)
Best Goalkeeper Botola 1: Nadir Lamyaghri (Wydad Athletic Club),
Best Moroccan Player Abroad: Mehdi Benatia (Udinese, Italy)

 

Mehdi Benatia has made a career for himself playing in France and Italy. The 24-year old player of the Moroccan national team grew up in France and made his pro debut at FC Tours in 2006. Currently, he is playing for Italian top team Udinese. He has proven that he is one of the best defenders in the Serie A. Recently he was even voted Best Defender of the Serie A by an Italian TV station.
