Lionel Messi has joined Andrés Iniesta, Neymar and Luis Suarez in voting for his World XI of 2015.

Barcelona's Messi and Real Madrid's Cristiano Ronaldo are the only players to have been selected eight times in the virtual team. Iniesta has appeared six times.

Barcelona holds the record of having six players selected in the awards that are organized by FIFPro. In 2010, when Spain won the World Cup, six Barcelona players were picked in the World XI: Dani Alves, Gerard Piqué, Carles Puyol, Andrés Iniesta, Xavi and Lionel Messi.

In June this year, Barcelona won its fifth Champions League title, comfortably beating Juventus in the final. Ivan Rakitic, Luis Suarez and Neymar scored, Iniesta was man of the match, and captain Xavi said goodbye to his club.

The current Barcelona squad, once again occupying the top spot in the Spanish league, boasts four World XI veterans (Alves, Iniesta, Messi and Pique) and at least as many candidates in line to be elected in the 2015 World XI.

Barcelona is one of the last teams to vote in Spain. The Spanish players association AFE collects about 2,000 votes for the annual poll before sending them to FIFPro.
