Daryl Kavanagh was the most prominent Irish footballer during the FIFPro Winter Tournament in Oslo, last January. But beside the tournament’s Most Valuable Player there were many more Irish out-of-contract players that benefitted from the event in Norway.

Seventeen out of eighteen players from Team PFAI who took part in the FIFPro Winter Tournament managed to sign a new contract. In total, twelve participants are playing in the League of Ireland Premier Division, the country’s highest level. Eight players are momentarily acting at a higher level than they had done previously to the event in Norway.

Many of Team PFAI’s footballers have improved visibly, with Eamon Zayed a prime example. The 27-year old striker signed a one-year contract with Derry City after the FIFPro Winter Tournament and has impressed since. The 2003 PFAI Young Player of the Year is leading all goal scorers in the League of Ireland Premier Division with 16 goals in 21 matches.
