Bayern Munich might have claimed the German double, but Borussia Dortmund won three very important trophies in the vote organised by German players association VDV.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang received the Silver Shoe for Best Player of the Season. The Borussia striker collected 19.7% of the more than 500 votes cast by players in the first, second and third German Bundesliga. He narrowly beat Robert Lewandowski who got 19.5% of the votes. Henrik Mkhitayan came in third (12.6%).

Aubameyang scored 25 league goals and had 6 assists in the Bundesliga for a Dortmund side that ended the season being runners-up in both the league and the cup. The Gabon international was the Bundesliga's second highest scorer behind Lewandowski (30 goals).

Two other awards also went to Borussia Dortmund. Julian Weigl received the Silver Arrow for being the Best Newcomer, while Thomas Tuchel was elected Best Coach of the Year.

The professional footballers in Germany also selected their Best XI, the VDV 11. This elite team is dominated by Bayern, which has 8 players in the 4-4-2 formation. Dortmund delivers the three other players, including Aubameyang and Bayern-bound defender Mats Hummels.
