FIFPRO has hosted a conference in Kuala Lumpur to strengthen collaboration among Asian football stakeholders and accelerate the development of the professional game in the region.

Representatives from FIFA, the Asian Football Confederation (AFC), national federations and player associations discussed how to work together on issues including club licensing, player health and dispute resolution.

FIFPRO general secretary Theo Van Seggelen opened the conference on Monday, telling the more than 60 delegates of the world player association’s energized relations with the AFC.

Van Seggelen last month held productive talks with AFC President Sheikh Salman bin Ibrahim Al Khalifa, and both their organizations are working together on their first collaboration agreement.

“We have started to build strong alliances with fellow stakeholders in Asia which will improve the career prospects and lives of professional footballers,” Van Seggelen said after the conference.

“This conference has helped us chart a path towards greater cooperation that will make Asian football stakeholders more united than ever.” kl windsor john 250

AFC general secretary Dato Windsor John and FIFA’s football regulatory director Omar Ongaro also addressed the conference at the Grand Millennium Hotel.

The AFC’s Windsor John said the conference was a milestone as “Asian football steps into a new era of professionalism.

“It provides a timely opportunity to forge a collaborative approach for the benefit of the stars of the game – our players. Our success relies significantly on our ability to bring everyone in the professional football ecosystem together.”

FIFA's Ongaro explained the ongoing changes to the regulations to the player transfer system to delegates.
