The Dutch professional footballers’ association VVCS welcomes the measures taken by the management of FC Groningen. The Dutch premier league club has warned all fans and spectators, that people using racist language in the Euroborg stadium will receive a lifelong ban.

Last Sunday, several spectators racially abused two players of FC Groningen during its home match against Roda JC (3-2 win). The insults were aimed at goalkeeper Luciano (photo) and striker Genero Zeefuik - both colored players. Nearby fans informed FC Groningen’s club management, which immediately decided to take firm measures.

Danny Hesp, president of the VVCS, welcomes the decision taken by FC Groningen’s club management. ‘I was informed that it were only a couple of spectators who misbehaved, but I fully agree with the club. These people have to be removed from the stadium and banned for the rest of their lives.'

‘In the Netherlands we don’t face many problems with racist behavior in stadiums. But when it occurs, immediate and firm action needs to be taken. We must single those people out and kick them from the stands. There is no excuse to behave like this.’
