Didier Drogba, Honorary President of FIFPro Division Africa, made an appeal on FIFPro to help professional African football players whose rights are not always respected.

Didier Drogba: ‘I call your full attention to African football. Rather obviously I come from Africa, but many players like me also come from that beautiful continent brimming with many talents. Unfortunately their rights are not always respected. Whether they are professional or amateur, they all dream of becoming one day a Samuel Eto’o, an Emmanuel Adebayor, a Michael Essiën, a Florent Malouda, an Aruna Dindane, and I forget how many others besides. And your support, FIFPro, is really very important for us, because it enables us to help these people who perhaps will not succeed in attaining their goal or seeing their dream come true. I myself have had that good fortune and I ask you today to help us support these players who are dreaming of being like us, and for me it is an honour to know that some young people want to be like me.

I know that day by day, year by year, FIFPro is growing. And the fact is that we’re making progress thanks to the involvement of the players and thanks more than anything else to the involvement of all the members of FIFPro who are concerned today, who struggle every day for us, and for our rights. I want to thank FIFPro in the name of all professional players for all your support and work you do for us. We are sincerely grateful for all the work you do.’
