Three weeks to go before FIFPro reveal the shortlist of the 2011 FIFA FIFPro World XI. Cristiano Ronaldo is one of the latest players to cast his vote for this year’s World XI and one of the main candidates to make this year’s FIFA FIFPro World XI.

Cristiano Ronaldo and the national team of Portugal are preparing for the two crucial qualifiers against Bosnia Herzegovina. On Friday the Portuguese will meet their rivals in Zenica, on Tuesday they will host Bosnia in their Estadio do Sport Lisboa e Benfica.

Before the Portuguese national team left for Bosnia, the Portuguese footballers’ association SJPF visited the squad in their training camp. Not only did they wish their countrymen all the best for the upcoming play off against Bosnia, but they also requested the players to cast their vote for the 2011 FIFA FIFPro World XI.

In a laid back and cheerful atmosphere, all 23 players agreed to fill in their ballot form, amongst others Nani (Manchester United), Pepe (Real Madrid), Hugo Almeida (Besiktas), Rolando (FC Porto) and Ruben Amorim (Benfica).

And of course, Cristiano Ronaldo. The captain of the Portuguese squad has been selected for the World XI in the last four years (2007, 2008, 2009, 2010). In 2008, Cristiano Ronaldo was also named FIFPro Player of the Year.

While dropping his World XI in the voting box, Cristiano Ronaldo smilingly added: ‘I hope that I will make it again this year…’

‘I have always enjoyed picking my own World XI. I think it is the biggest honor a professional footballer can receive, the respect of his peers. We, the players, all know what effort it takes to compete in professional football. That’s why I enjoy participating in this vote’, said the top goal scorer of Real Madrid.

In three weeks time, on Thursday December 1st, FIFPro will reveal the 55 players nominated on the shortlist for the 2011 FIFA FIFPro World XI:  5 goal keepers, 20 defenders, 15 midfielders and 15 attackers. The FIFA FIFPro World XI will be announced on 9 January 2012 at the annual FIFA Ballon d’Or Gala in Zurich, Switzerland.
