Marcelinho and Dimitar Berbatov have received Bulgarian football awards at a gala organized by the Association of Bulgarian Footballers (ABF).

Marcelinho Nascimento da Costa collected the player of the season trophy after winning in a vote of 670 players in the country’s top two leagues.

The 32-year old midfielder helped his team, Ludogorets, win the championship. The Brazil-born player, who is a Bulgarian national team player, scored 14 league goals.

"I would like to thank the coach, the club and my teammates. Football is my life," said Marcelinho, who also won the award in 2015 and finished second in 2016.

CSKA’s Kiril Despodov was chosen as best young player and Georgi Dermendzhiev (Ludogorets) was named coach of the season.

Silvia Radoyska (National Sports Academy) retained her crown for being the best female player in Bulgaria.

The ABF honoured Dimitar Berbatov for his achievements in football. The 36-year old striker played 78 matches for the national team, scoring 48 goals.

After coming through the ranks at CSKA, Berbatov spend most of his career abroad at teams including Bayer Leverkusen, Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester United, Fulham and Monaco.
