The board of FIFPro Division Europe nominated Bobby Barnes to be its new president. Barnes will be presented to the general assembly of Division Europe, during its next meeting in Slovenia on October 22nd.

Currently, Barnes is a board member of FIFPro and FIFPro Division Europe as well. He is also Deputy Chief Executive of PFA England.

‘I am delighted to be in this position’, says President-elect Barnes. ‘I am looking forward to cooperating with all our stakeholders in Europe, UEFA, EPFL, ECA and of course the European Commission.’

FIFPro Division Europe has a large responsibility towards other divisions, Barnes states. ‘Issues such as the Bosman case have proven that Europe plays a major role in the political developments and changes in the still highly conservative professional football.’

‘It is not without reason that everybody within FIFPro understands and accepts that at the moment Europe is the only continent which can force worldwide change through litigation.’

‘It cannot be denied that, because of the European Union and the European legislation issuing from it, the European Division plays a crucial role in the further development of FIFPro and the further development of the legal position of footballers throughout the world.’
