FIFPro Division Americas will organize a football tournament for players out of contract. FIFPro Division Americas announced this plan during its general assembly in Costa Rica, on August 3 and 4.

In January 2011 FIFPro Division Americas will schedule its first Tournament for players out of contract. Just like their European counterparts have done in the past six summers, the American division wants to create a special occasion for footballers without a contract to showcase their talents in order to earn a new contract.

The capital of Uruguay, Montevideo, will be the venue of the first edition of the American FIFPro Tournament. Five associations have agreed to participate in this new event: AFA (Argentina), Fenapaf (Brazil), SIFUP (Chile), SAFAP (Peru) and MUFP (Uruguay).

Since the summer of 2005 FIFPro Division Europe has organized a FIFPro Tournament each summer. And with success, because more than 50 percent of all participating players actually succeeded in signing a new contract, in their own country or elsewhere.
