FUB Signs With Botho Uni 1100

In addition to the five scholarships, FUB members will also take part in a minimum of four short courses targeting a total of hundred players, which will be conducted every three months.

FUB President Onalethata Tshekiso said through this partnership the union wants to assist players to transition successfully into the sport at young ages, help them to manage various transitions during their time in sport, and to transition out of sport and into their next careers.

“We hope to develop well-rounded people, build player confidence and self-esteem. We want to help players create their own identity outside football,” Tshekiso said adding that the move will assist players to develop a passion for learning and education.

“This partnership will provide practical assistance for the players to gain educational qualifications in various disciplines that would further develop them on their day to day lives,” Tshekiso concluded.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, the Minister of Youth Empowerment, Sport and Culture Development, Tumiso Rakgare, said his ministry supports any entity that augments the efforts of government to ensure that all sport persons are well-prepared to live a proper life after their playing careers.

“We encourage other companies or organisations to enter into similar agreements to assist the athletes who would have carried the Botswana flag high during their careers,” Rakgare said.

The minister implored FUB to take advantage of this deal with Botho University to ensure that a long-term collaborative partnership can increase football players’ access to education.
