2025 Board Meeting

FIFPRO's board met at FIFPRO House in Hoofddorp, Netherlands on 27 and 28 May to address key priorities facing the global players’ union, including dedicated strategy sessions to shape the organisation’s future direction.

Uniting the voice of over 70 national player associations, FIFPRO’s 12-person global board carries the responsibility of defending the working rights of more than 60,000 men’s and women’s footballers.

Top issues on the agenda included the health and wellbeing of players, with concerns about excessive workload at the elite level and underload for many others, as well as the disastrous situation regarding the respect of basic player rights in several parts of the world. "It is not possible that this is happening in 2025," said FIFPRO President Sergio Marchi.

"Bolivia is a striking example, where players go unpaid for months - and sadly, it’s just one of many similar cases globally, with Türkiye among the countries facing comparable issues.

"In other countries, like Cameroon, we’re also seeing serious governance issues and interference in the work of unions, which further undermines the rights and protections of players."

FIFPRO Board Strategy

Comprehensive updates were given from leading representatives of FIFPRO’s regional divisions: Africa, Asia/Oceania, Central and North America, South America, and Europe, ensuring FIFPRO’s global board have a holistic view of what is happening within the game worldwide.

"In my first six months as President, I’ve seen first-hand the importance of unity across our global membership," said Marchi.

"This board meeting reinforced our shared commitment to advancing players’ rights and ensuring their voices are heard at every level of the game. It was also a valuable opportunity to align on our strategic priorities and ensure that our collective efforts are focused on delivering long-term impact for players around the world," he added.

FIFPRO Secretary General Alex Phillips said: "Having our board members together from across every region ensures that our strategy is coherent and grounded in the realities players face around the world. Their insights and perspectives are vital as we work through key priorities and respond to the evolving challenges in the game."
