- The World 11 is the only global football award decided exclusively by the players
Alex Greenwood was presented with her 2024 FIFPRO Women’s World 11 trophy this week. The Manchester City and England defender was voted into the 2024 FIFPRO Women’s World 11 by her fellow professionals based on her performances during the period 21 August 2023 to 10 August 2024 inclusive.
A record-breaking 7,000 women’s players voted for their World 11. It is the only global player award decided exclusively by footballers.
Greenwood received the newly redesigned World 11 trophy and a framed shirt at City's training base from a FIFPRO and PFA delegation, which included Maheta Molango (FIFPRO global board member and PFA CEO), Dr Alex Culvin (FIFPRO Director of Global Policy & Strategic Relations, Women's Football), Paul McFarlane (FIFPRO Union and Player Relations Officer), Victoria Williams (PFA Player Services Executive), Marie-Christine Bouchier (PFA Head of Women's Football) and Simon Barker (PFA Director of Player Services).

Speaking in December after learning of her World 11 win, Greenwood said: "I'm really proud to make the FIFPRO World 11. To be nominated by your fellow players, not only who you play with but against, is special."
England was the most represented nation in the 2024 Women’s World 11 with Lucy Bronze, Lucy Bronze, Alex Greenwood, Lauren James and Keira Walsh being selected by their fellow professionals. The presence of the five Lionesses also meant England (22) leapfrogged USA (20) as the leader in all-time Women’s World 11 country appearances.
A trophy that truly celebrates the collective
Greenwood was presented with the new-look World 11 trophy that truly captures the collective spirit of the World 11.
Each individual trophy is an elegant representation of the number ‘1’, symbolising that each player is, in the eyes of their peers, the best in their position on the pitch. When all 11 trophies come together, they form a larger prize representing the entire World 11—celebrating the power of the team.
Designed by the award-winning studio xCruza at their Argentinian base, the trophies when gathered form an Abrazo de Gol (Goal Hug) embodying the essence of football: a single gesture where the team's spirit merges.
