History - The FIFPRO Women's World 11 of 2019

In the spotlights of that illustrious stage, five players from the United States national team received their World 11 award: Julie Ertz, Rose Lavelle, Alex Morgan, Kelly O’Hara and Megan Rapinoe.

All five were part of the World Championship squad that successfully defended its 2015 World title in France, convincingly beating the Netherlands in the final.

The Women's World 11 included four new names: Rapinoe, Lavelle, O'Hara and Sari van Veenendaal, the goalkeeper of the Dutch women's team.

Wendie Renard (France and Olympique Lyonnais) made her fourth appearance. She is the only player who has been voted on all World 11s. Morgan, Marta and Nilla Fischer all have three trophees. Ertz, Henry and Bronze each have two.

Morgan was chosen by most players, followed by Renard and Rapinoe. (Note: defenders statistically have more chance of getting a vote, as four defenders are picked and three forwards).

List of 55

Almost half of the List of 55 players who received most votes consisted of players from the USA and Olympique Lyonnais. World champion USA had fourteen players on the list, while European club champions Lyon had thirteen.

Out of the four women who narrowly missed out on the World 11 award, Crystal Dunn came closest to collecting a trophy. The American defender finished fifth with 48 fewer votes than Fischer.

Dunn is in good company, as goalkeeper Christiane Endler, midfielder Dzsenifer Marozsan and forward Ada Hegerberg also ended fourth. All three were not really within close distance of getting onto the World 11.

However, the fight for a place among the three top forwards was especially difficult with 8 players in close contention: Hegerberg, Ellen White, Tobin Heath, Lieke Martens, Sam Kerr, Vivianne Miedema, Pernille Harder and Eugenie Le Sommer.
