The 2022 FIFA FIFPRO Women’s World 11 was revealed at The Best FIFA Football Awards in Paris on Monday, where the most outstanding players in the current game were celebrated.

On a night where seven players made their Women’s World 11 debut, four stars made their return to the team of the year – including a certain defender who has been ever-present in every Women’s World 11 since the award launched in 2015.

FIFPRO takes a look at the four players making their FIFA FIFPRO Women’s World 11 return after being selected by fellow professional players around the globe for their performances during the period 7 August 2021 to 31 July 2022 inclusive.

Christiane Endler

Position: Goalkeeper
Club: Olympique Lyonnais
Nation: Chile
World 11 appearances: Three

A third successive award for Christiane Endler means no goalkeeper has made more Women’s World 11 appearances than the Chilean stopper (3). Endler had previously shared the record with Hope Solo (2).

Endler’s performances between the sticks helped Olympique Lyonnais to the 2021/22 Division 1 Feminine title and UEFA Women’s Champions League. A multitude of personal accolades followed for the dependable stopper – including UNFP’s Goalkeeper of the Year, UNFP’s Team of the Year and the Women’s Champions League team of the year.

Lucy Bronze

Position: Defender
Club: Manchester City/Barcelona
Nation: England
World 11 appearances: Five

One of the finest right-backs in the game, Lucy Bronze enjoyed yet another successful year on the pitch and helped England to UEFA Women’s EURO 2022 glory – the country’s first continental title.

A consistent performer, Bronze started all six games at EURO 2022, scoring a vital goal in the semi-final win over Sweden before featuring in the Final against Germany at Wembley. Fellow professionals voted the attacking right-back into the World 11 for a fifth time.

Wendie Renard

Position: Defender
Club: Olympique Lyonnais
Nation: France
World 11 appearances: Seven

Seven successive Women’s World 11 appearances means Wendie Renard has been named in every single Women’s World 11 since the award launched in 2015. The French defender was voted once again by her peers – joining team-mate Endler in another fruitful season at the back for Olympique Lyonnais.

Solid at the back, Renard helped her club to the French domestic league and UEFA Women’s Champions League, making more history by becoming the first player to win eight Women’s Champions League finals.

Alex Morgan

Club: Orlando Pride/San Diego Wave
Nation: USA
World 11 appearances: Five

Only Wendie Renard has more World 11 appearances than Alex Morgan, who is joint-second for appearances in the team of the year (5) with England’s Lucy Bronze.

Morgan played the starring role in USA’s title-winning performance in the 2022 Concacaf W Championship, scoring the only goal in the final against Canada from the penalty spot and was voted Player of the Tournament. In all, she netted three times to help the Americans lift the continental trophy for the ninth time.
