FIFPRO is surprised by the decision of the Cyprus football association to cancel the rest of the league after the government gave permission for competitions to restart.
The decision risks affecting the livelihood of hundreds of professional football players at a time when employees in multiple other sectors in Cyprus are returning to work after a decline in coronavirus cases.
Furthermore, the decision by the Cyprus football association comes a full 10 days before a deadline by UEFA for European national leagues to communicate restart plans.
FIFPRO supports the national player association, PASP, which is committed to protecting the livelihoods of players if they are negatively affected by what appears to be a premature decision.
Along with PASP, we will defend the right of the players to have their contractual obligations fulfilled.
