To mark International Women’s Day, we are celebrating the footballers who #ChooseToChallenge.

Wales top international scorer Helen Ward considered retiring during the Covid-19 lockdown in England, as she was struggling to combine her life as a professional footballer with home schooling her two children.

FIFPRO welcomes FIFA’s decision to sanction Yves Jean-Bart, President of the Haitian Football Federation (FHF), having found him guilty of sexual harassment and abuse of female players, including minors. Mr Jean-Bart has been banned for life from all football-related activities at both national and international level and has been issued a CHF 1,000,000 fine.

Aitana Bonmati’s impact stretches beyond the pitch. When not dictating play in a Barcelona or Spain jersey, the midfield fulcrum uses her platform to raise awareness about issues affecting women’s footballers.

As well as his success as a player, Paz has managed to obtain two university degrees: electrical engineering and public accountancy. He is doing a third university course – a master’s degree in sports administration.

Members of the new FIFPRO Global Player Council have told how they want to amplify the voice of professional footballers. Anita Asante, Gabriela Garton, Vincent Kompany and Jodie Taylor spoke as the council was launched publicly in Brussels. The Global Player Council (GPC) will have an international focus, reinforcing the work of FIFPRO and its 65 affiliated national player associations.
