FIFPRO is organizing a live online webinar called, Raising Our Game: 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup Player Discussion. The webinar will take place shortly after the host is selected on Thursday, June 25 at 21:00 CET. The bidding nations are Colombia and Australia/New Zealand (joint bid).

The one-hour discussion will be hosted by Danielle Slaton, who played for the U.S. Women’s National Team between 2000 and 2005 and competed at the 2003 FIFA Women’s World Cup. The participants are all active players, including Natalia Gaitán (Colombia, captain), Elise Kellond-Knight (Australia), Ali Riley (New Zealand, captain) and Erin McLeod (Canada). The webinar will reflect on the players’ experiences at past FIFA Women’s World Cups, hear their ambitions for future tournaments, and discuss the conditions they view as critical to improve both the competition and their industry.

Raising Our Game is the new FIFPRO report which puts players at the heart of the growth and development of women’s professional football, and includes a call to action for the establishment of global minimum standards in international tournaments.

Meet the players


Natalia GaitÁn

Colombia women’s national team captain. She has been representing her country at all levels since 2008, including the 2015 FIFA Women's World Cup. She recently announced she would be leaving her club, Valencia, after five years. She holds a master’s degree international sports management.

Elise Kellond-Knight

Three-time FIFA Women’s World Cup participant (2011, 2015 & 2019). She has played 112 times for Australia, and represented clubs in Australia, Denmark, Germany, Japan, Sweden and the U.S. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in pharmacy and health care administration. FIFPRO Global Player Council member.

Ali Riley

New Zealand national team captain. She has played in four FIFA Women’s World Cups (2007, 2011, 2015 & 2019), racking up more than 130 matches for her country. She represented clubs in Germany, Sweden, the U.K. and the U.S. A Stanford University alumni, she holds qualifications in psychology and nutrition, and is a certified health coach.

Erin MCleod

Canada goalkeeper who has represented her country 118 times. She played at 2007, 2011 and 2015 World Cup, when Canada was host. She missed out on the 2019 edition through injury. Current club: Orlando Pride. She is an ambassador for Canada Scores, which organizes after-school activities for vulnerable children.
