The Professional footballers’ association of Australia (PFA) is devastated after learning the news of the passing of its member Tyler Simpson. The 25-year-old defender died last Thursday, May 26th.

Simpson played at Blacktown City FC, the 2010 champions of the New South Wales Premier League, the second highest professional level in Australia. He played a big part in last year’s triumph of The Demons.

Simpson was a centre back. With his tall frame (1.96 metres) he was a menace for opposing attacking players, as well as defenders. He could also play in midfield or as a target man up front.

Simpson played for several clubs in the NSW Premier League (APIA Leichhardt, Sydney Olympic) and clubs in the A-League (Perth Glory, Queensland Roar).

Tyler Simpson also tried his luck outside of Australia. He played at Dinamo-Zenit Yerevan in Armenia and on Cyprus. ‘Both he and his twin brother Jordan were treated terribly on Cyprus’, remembered Brendan Schwab, chief executive of PFA Australia. ‘We had to bring their cases to the FIFA DRC.’
