Ever since the Italian AIC organized the first training facilities for players out of contract in 1985, a considerable number of players’ unions have taken over this idea. This allowed the players to stay in good playing condition and ready for play by any clubs that were interested. The phenomenon acquired international status when the Dutch VVCS team had to play the French UNFP team (see photo) and the Belgian Sporta team in 2004. This developed into a FIFPro – five-country tournament for players out of contract in the French town of Senlis in the summer of 2005.
